Down to thirty degrees last night around midnight and is still holding there.  Had a "warning shot" yesterday evening of spotty light frost, but this a.m. as light begins to break in the east I can see that the frost is heavy and the garden that I did not cover is droopy and curled.  And yes, there is only ONE pumpkin this year-not planned that way, just how it turned out.
So I guess I will go through the garden this morning and save what I can that was not covered and begin cleaning up a bit.  On a positive note, I am in for a good week of sunny weather with highs in the 60's during the day.  Hope to get the rest of the rafters up and sheeting/tar paper down.

We had a light frost the other night, yup we get those even here in sunny CA. Luckily it only managed to fry the tips of a couple basil plants and my long beans. Same luck with the pumpkins this year, gotta get the powdery mildew under control (read: need to plant the pumpkins elsewhere next year) Irony is that its been in the low 70's every day since the frost.

I spent a few weeks one summer during my college days working at the Wildlife Refuge in Los Banos.  I remember having a rather large water snake show up in my tent in the middle of the night!  That is a nice laid back area to live in as I recall.  A mite warm for my tastes, but very nice just the same.
