We've all met that one person that just knocked us to our knees with their unique and total perspective on living the simple life and doing so in a manner that they were fulfilled and at peace with the world to the point that we wanted that same elusive thing for ourselves.

Who was or is that person in your life?

Hard to settle on just one!  But...

For me, one unforgettable character was a man named Thor H.  He was in his fifties when I met him, and his kids were already adults and off working at jobs.  Thor had learned all kinds of stuff from his father who was both a field-crop farmer and trout farmer.  Thor was an all-round homesteader - a builder and handyman.  When I first met him, we were in an old abandoned orchard, and Thor took off his shoes and, while clutching a sharp knife, scurried up these old apple trees (he almost seemed to walk or hop up them) like a rain-forest monkey.  Up in each tree he cut some scions, for grafting, and then he’d scurry back down.  He was a man of joy and contentment, and he bristled with knowledge and skills.

Then there were a few younger people.  John H had had his land for a couple of years and was in his mid thirties when I met him.  He had an amazing sunny, fun-loving, warm personality and an enthusiasm for living in our valley.  And also there were Fritz & Sally M, who were family people par excellence – gardeners, builders (and Fritz was a fine woodworker at a young age).  They had two fine kids and they were people who were ready to share their skills, and were great contributors to the community.
